Erazo Baez is a Latina artist who is known for her ability to capture the cultural
emotional nuances of the Puerto Rican experience. Baez's visually stimulating
art of folklore, tradition and nostalgia are rich in color, texture and emotion.
On her tapestry of possibilities, Baez depicts Latin- centric contemporary art
as well as luminous landscapes, proactive portraits, still lives and vibrant cultural
realities. For example in her painting "La Fiesta Plena" the artist shares the
rich tradition of story telling through song, dance and drumming celebrating the
Afro Latin traditions of Puerto Rico. Born
in Brooklyn, New York of Puerto Rican parents, Baez celebrates her bicultural
perspective as a NewYorican who had the fortunate opportunity to grow up both
in New York City and in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. According to Baez, "I wasn't born
in Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico was born in me." Her distinctive bicultural perspective
collides vibrantly on her palette with great detail. In her technique she captures
the soul of each painting by weaving brush strokes into feelings of hope, pride
and sometimes despair. "Art calls at me. It calls for me to express and to evoke
passion." "It is my connection with God, which is why it must be shared, says
Baez. Currently
living in Miami, Florida Baez is both a wife and a mother of two young children.
Inspired by her own family, Baez decided to formally introduce her artwork to
the public in 2000 in Coral Gables. Since her debut Baez's work has been displayed
at: Miami City Hall; the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration; Orlando City
Hall and Miami-Dade County, Hispanic Affairs Advisory Board's "Hispanic
Art Expressions 2005" to name a few. Through her art, Baez is also a
community change agent committed service and the cultural preservation and advancement
of Puerto Rican art globally. |
